Finding the right air mattress for the right price can be a tiresome process.
There are many options available. Which brand? What size? What height?
That's why we're here to help with our roundup of intex air bed reviews.
If you're after value for money, Intex is your brand. Targeted towards entry level shoppers, Intex air beds are known for their affordability and durability.
For this review roundup we focused on five Intex model air beds. We have included both indoor and outdoors air mattresses, all of the popular queen size.
The queen sized Intex Comfort Plush is 60” x 18” x 80”. This height, 18”, is especially important for those who need the elevation due to physical limitations. This makes the bed easier to get in and out of. Additionally, with the 18” height the user can sit on the side of the bed, making it easier to put on their shoes.
The plush waterproof flocking that this inflatable mattress is covered in is comfortable and soft to the touch. The air chambers are horizontal, which provides the user with extra stability throughout the night.
What a hassle it is, trying to find that pump to inflate your bed. With this Intex model, no longer will you have to scramble to find that pump. It comes with a built-in electric pump which inflates this mattress in approximately 4 minutes.
Numerous customers have reported their difficulty in finding an air mattress that will hold sheets snug. With the indented sides on this model, customers are happy to report that their sheets fit just right and don’t slide off through the night.
Other customers have mentioned that it does need re-inflating during the first couple of uses. Intex acknowledges this, stating that it's simply due to initial stretching of the material.
Overall, customers are delighted with its comfort. With many guests reporting back that they got a great night’s sleep.
For those that are looking for both an indoors and outdoors air mattress, this is not the one for you. This model is designed for indoor use only.
Another weak area that we need to address is its need to be re-inflated. Not all, but many, air mattresses go through a stretching phase when first inflated. This model does experience some stretching, so it is likely that it will need re-inflated from time to time, especially during those first few uses.
Out of the five models in this review, we rate the Intex Comfort Plush as the best of the bunch.
It's affordably priced when compared to the competition. With the 18” in height, and appropriate queen size dimensions coupled with its 600 pound weight capacity, couples can rest assured.
The waterproof flocked material is soft to the touch, all the while providing stability with the Dura-Beam construction. This air mattress is comfortable for all sleepers, and has a solid track record with customers ratings.
If you're shopping for a cheap air bed that can be used inside your home as well as camping trips, you should carefully consider the Intex Classic Downy.
For the college student needing a affordable air mattress to get them by to the outdoors enthusiast, this cheaper alternative works across various scenarios.
A plush flocking provides the user with a comfortable resting surface. Bear in mind the sleeping surface is waterproof, so if you do take it camping fear not of that impending moisture.
With the wave beam construction, expect additional comfort and stability. The dimensions of this air bed measure out at 60” x 9” x 80”, making it the right size for a single or double sleeper.
When it comes to inflation and deflation, a 2-in-1 valve with extra wide openings eases the process. A air pump is not included - the biggest downside we saw.
It is only natural that an air mattress will get dirty. Cleaning this Classic Downy is a breeze, just use mild soap and water for a quick cleanup.
Again, this blowup mattress will need to be re-inflated from time to time, especially during those initial inflations.
The conditions that this air mattress is used will also play a role in it’s ability to hold firmness. Variables that play a role in how well it holds its firmness include humidity, temperature, and the combined weight of the sleepers.
Customers report that it holds air surprisingly well, when bearing in mind its cheap cost. With a weight capacity of 600 pounds, as most Intex air mattresses do in the queen size, feedback indicates that it holds weight well.
When looking over customer reviews, what shocked most consumers was how long this air mattress has lasted. Numerous reviews indicate that the Classic Downy has lasted, and been used on a regular basis, for upwards of a year. Now, this may not sound like much, but for an air beds that retails below $20 it's certainly not bad.
A weakness that stands out for us is the approximate 9” height. This is difficult for some to get in and out of, and is not conducive for sitting on. This airbed is prone to loss of firmness, depending upon conditions.
Another drawback is that it does not include a pump.
The Intex Classic Downy is well known as one of the cheapest air mattresses available. So, it is certainly affordable.
Don’t let the price scare you away. It packs plenty of punch. This air bed is constructed of comfortable material that is washable and waterproof. And what is the most surprising is how comfortable it is.
We do not like the approximate 9” height. However, for a entry level option, this ones a good pick.
So, guests are over and the time comes for them to go to sleep. You inflate the air mattress. But wait, there is a problem.
You don’t have any spare pillows.
Enter the Intex Pillow Rest air bed, with built-in pillows you'll never get caught short again. Designed specifically for indoor use, this is a great stowaway item for guests that comes to visit.
The dimensions of the Pillow Rest are 60” x 16.5” x 80”. This height of 16.5” is great for sitting on the side of the bed as well as for guests with leg and back difficulties.
The top is flocked and waterproof, providing comfort and softness to the touch. A double-layered wave beam interior construction provides stability and comfort. There will be no need for scrambling to find a pump, as it comes with an electric built-in pump. This pump inflates the bed in approximately 4 minutes.
You will also find a 3-in-1 valve for ease of inflation and deflation. Lastly, the indented sides hold sheets in place so you don’t have to rearrange the bedding in the middle of the night.
Several customers who, by their own admission are heavier, provided feedback that the Pillow Rest held their combined weight with no difficulty. Another common theme in customer feedback is the ease at which the bed inflates and deflates.
Numerous reports of it holding firmness surprisingly well. The comfort that consumers have experienced sleeping on this model is also well reported in feedback, as they have experienced a good night’s sleep.
This inflatable mattress is designed specifically for indoor use, so the outdoors enthusiast should consider other models.
The built-in pillows serve a great purpose Yet, some may find them uncomfortable. If you put a regular bed pillow on top of the built-in one, it can create an awkward sleeping position that's too high.
The price of this model is reasonable, making it affordable. We love the height of 16.5” for all the reasons previously stated. We found the material to be comfortable and durable, however, the seams may pose an issue for the user in time.
This Intex Pillow Rest model makes for a good addition to any guest bedroom. However, we do not recommend it for frequent use. The other issue that we have is how some may find the built-in pillows - either you like them or don’t.
For a few dollars more than it’s counterpart above, the Intex Deluxe Pillow Rest offers some key differences.
The construction of this model uses vinyl beams for sturdy use. Additionally, the top is made of a softer, more visually appealing material.
As we have come to expect from Intex, this Deluxe model features a waterproof flocked top. A built-in electric pump handles the inflation and deflation duties, with the inflation taking roughly 4 minutes.
Overall dimensions for this Deluxe Pillow Rest are 60” x 16.75” x 80”. A 600 pound capacity, as is standard for queen sized Intex air beds, assures the buyer that it will hold a single or couple.
As with its counterpart, this Deluxe model has built-in pillows.
Given the strong similarities between the 2 Pillow Rest models, we are left to narrow down the strengths to the 2 key differences as we see them.
The vinyl beams, while on appearances don’t seem to be that much different, sure surprised us with how sturdy and steady this bed is. Additionally, the visually appealing grey top is easy on the skin and comfortable to sleep on.
As with any raised air mattress, there are reports of difficulties with the seams. Additionally, numerous customers are satisfied with the ease of adjusting its firmness.
As is the case with any blowup mattress designed for home use, we must mention that this model is not for the outdoors enthusiast.
Again, we must mention the issues that may arise with the built-in pillows. Some people may find them uncomfortable. For those that do, whether or not they can comfortably arrange bed pillows for a good night’s rest is dependent on their needs.
We like this model better than the Pillow Rest previously reviewed. The Deluxe model, from what we can tell, has two distinct differences in the top and the construction.
This model would be great to store away for when you have friends or family over. If you need an air mattress for more frequent use, we recommend you consider other options.
We appreciate a raised platform bed - it's one of our key factors we use when deciding on which air beds to recommend.
This Intex Raised Downy exceeds expectations with dimensions fully inflated of 60” x 22” x 80”.
Another feature of this model is the dual-chamber construction.
How does this work? The lower chamber functions as a box spring would with a traditional mattress. The upper chamber serves as a mattress.
Again, the 22” height is great for people with physical limitations as well as sitting on the side of the bed.
We found the dual-chamber construction to work great as a stabilizer as well as comfortable. The built-in electric pump works smoothly, with inflation times right around 4 minutes or less.
We also love the Intex indented sides, so sheets can fit snug.
The overriding feedback on the Raised Downy is how comfortable the users found it to be.
Another common theme in customer feedback is how appreciative guests are of the 22” height. The dual-chamber construction, coupled with the height, gives the “feel” of a traditional mattress.
This air bed is designed for indoors use, so if you need one for camping, other options are more suitable. We are aware of the potential for sagging with this Intex model. For those who plan to use it frequently, the material can have a tendency to sag with time.
The weight capacity is 600 pounds, as it is with Intex queen sized inflatable beds. There is some concern with the construction and how comfortably two people can sleep on it.
This Intex model is affordable, especially given it’s size. Of the five models reviewed here, it stands at the top in size with its 22” height.
We found the comfort level to be excellent, thanks in great part to the dual-chamber construction. Our verdict is that this is a great air mattress, perfect for the occasional guests or keeping for that unexpected stay over when out of town.
